About Dr. Dana
I graduated with honors as a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) from Western States Chiropractic College in 1995 with achievement awards from both the college and the American Chiropractic Association (ACA). During that time, I was the Student Legislative Representative in Washington, DC. I had been a Licensed Massage Therapist in both Oregon and Washington states, and pioneered a program bringing soft-tissue massage Interns into the Student Health Center to train interns to work with Chiropractic Assistants.
Before opening Blue Heron Chiropractic in 1996, I was as an Adjunct Faculty Member for two years at the Chiropractic College, teaching adjustment in the Technique Department, and also as an Assistant Clinician at the WSCC Outpatient Clinic. I completed postgraduate courses in Chiropractic Orthopedics in 2000 and obtained Board Certification as a Chiropractic Orthopedist (DABCO) in 2006, following that up with a Fellowship from the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists (ACO) in 2011.
I am pleased to say that this became a Fellowship in the International Academy of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (FIANM (US)) in 2019. I have been a Diplomate of the American Board of Disability Analysts since 2001. I am a member of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), the Oregon Chiropractic Association (OCA) , The International Chiropractors Association (ICA), the American Academy of Pain Management (AAPM), The American Academy of Spine Physicians (AASP), and have been a member of The American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists (ACCO). I have been invited to present before the Council on Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA).
Blue Heron has been one of a group of chiropractic clinics training Chiropractic Assistants in Oregon for over a decade. I have been the Executive Director of a not-for-profit corporation designed to encourage professional association amongst chiropractors locally and nationally since 2014.
I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Union College in upstate New York in 1984. My career path has involved different aspects of health care, ranging from Emergency Medical Services to Recreational Rehabilitation for children with brain injuries and disability.
I worked on a legal team assembling medical and biological evidence for a nationally recognized trial involving Agent Orange and Dioxin, a carcinogen, in which we succeeded in obtaining a jury determination that Dioxin was linked to cancers. That was a particularly exciting time for me, including getting married to a wonderful partner.
We moved to Oregon in 1992 and I then turned my attention to studying Chiropractic and since then have practiced healthcare directly since 1996. Lately my interests are in spending time with my family including my wife and two vibrant young adult kids, and occasionally – when I get a moment – racing offshore sailboats.
My specific focus on chiropractic orthopedics involves diligent patient education, manipulative therapy, rehabilitative exercise, and physiotherapeutics including soft tissue massage and myofascial release. I insist upon using cutting-edge technologies and the top equipment available in the field.
I’ve discovered that helping people to feel better and live healthier, more functional lives is my top priority. I will help you to understand your body and to discover the meaning of health and recovery. I believe there is always a higher level of health to strive for, and that even the healthiest people have a higher level of function available to them. Our bodies are complex and we owe them the basic care and maintenance they need.
