November 20, 2008Do you have a psoriasis skin rash and joint pain? You may psoriatic arthritis. If you have skin scaliness / “plaques” and are experiencing pain, stiffness, or swelling in your joints, you could be at the risk of irreversible joint damage if untreated. (Note, this includes “only in the morning” stiffness!) Nearly 4 in 10 people with psoriasis actually have psoriatic arthritis and therefore could be at the risk of permanent joint damage. Psoriatic arthritis is treatable!
Psoriasis is not difficult to recognize on the skin, although occasionally we will consult a dermatologist to make the final diagnosis. The joint changes are recognizable with a standard X-ray. The sooner we begin to diagnose this, the sooner we can manage this for you! Come in and discuss this all with me before you decide you have this, and of course, don’t panic. This is a manageable condition, but we do have to manage it.
