December 18, 2008Are You a Good Driver?
Of course you are a good driver. But how are the other drivers around you doing? Normally, now that the foggy/rainy weather and slippery roads are back, it would be time to think about defensive driving. I am here to tell you today that there is another reason: OTHER DRIVERS. I personally think that drivers are more easily distracted these days; they are aggravated, late, trying to dial their iPhone, aggressive, and they are just not thinking.
Defensive Driving
I was driving last week with my daughters in the car, and made a turn onto Rosa Parks Way off of Denver. Right in front of me, a car that was parked on the side of the road in a parking space “hung a U-turn”. Which means they tried to pull out of a parking space, with no signal, and make a complete U-turn across two traffic lanes and double yellow line. Luckily for us, when my car stopped skidding, we had missed creaming them by about an inch. The other driver was talking on the phone at the time. I don’t think he even noticed me. I am now reminded: besides thinking about whether I am driving well, I have to think about how the other drivers are driving.
So, here is a reminder to look around you while you drive. Focus outward. don’t be distracted by your radio or the conversation in the back. You need to pay attention to more than just yourself. You have to think what the other drivers are going to do. Now I am not saying that this will help you if someone makes a U-turn out of a parking space. But it may help you avoid a car accident.
Now, one last thing. In the case of a Motor Vehicle accident, you can get treatment here at Blue Heron Chiropractic, with your PIP coverage likely covering all of your expenses. We can help you with this. Next week I will provide more information such as “how to handle it after a motor vehicle crash”
Let me share what I have learned by treating people for this for 14 years.
