April 2, 2013Surgery Free Back Pain Relief
Chiropractic care really does translate to less surgery. Research suggests whether a back pain patient goes to a chiropractor may determine whether they end up “under the knife.” According to the Mayo Clinic, “while back pain is extremely common, surgery often does not relieve it”.
In a study of Washington State workers who had back pain, 42% of workers who had not gone to a chiropractor ended up having undergoing a medical procedure. However, only 1.5% of workers who had gone to a chiropractor first required a procedure at all. That is 28 to 1, or 28 times more! This discrepancy held true even when other factors like pain severity were considered. These numbers don’t lie. Not going to a chiropractor is an Early Predictor of Back Surgery.
While surgery rates have increased dramatically since the 1990s, chiropractic care as a first treatment might save patients the drama, time loss and expense of unsuccessful, and potentially unnecessary surgeries.
